It was hard to leave. The day had been so enjoyable, and with the sun staying up until nearly eight o’clock, the party had lasted well into the night. Everyone was welcome to find a place to sleep in the grand old house, but most of the guests either had to work the next day or were at least gracious enough to find their way home and leave the extra bedrooms to out of town visitors. Dillon had only had the one drink when his father toasted his proposal, so he was good to fly the shuttle back home.

Once Sherisza ran her final test on Aunt Rita’s shuttle, Dillon got his parents home safely and they shuffled off to their room. It was well after their usual self-appointed bedtime, and Dillon simply hoped there would be no emergency calls regarding the Kwaagi or anyone else. It was going to be a rough morning for the two of them as it was. He was sure they’d consider it worth it in the end, but that didn’t mitigate the day that was coming for both of them.

Alone in the sitting room, Sherisza wrapped her arms around Dillon’s neck, and they shared another of those wonderful, long kisses. She hadn’t drunk much alcohol over the course of the day, and her eyes were bright and loving when he met her gaze again. She ran her fingers along his jaw, then took him by the hand and led him to the lavatory. They undressed, and Dillon got in the shower when Sherisza sat on the commode. He hadn’t thought she was that comfortable with him, but it made him snicker and grin a little anyway.

She joined him in the shower shortly, and they began kissing again under the warm spray of the showerheads. It still wasn’t as nice as the Malshekt’s shower, but with Sherisza in his arms, the place didn’t matter much to Dillon. They may not have exchanged vows yet, but she had accepted his proposal. He considered her his wife already. Despite the reverend’s words that morning, Dillon didn’t feel bad about being here with her now. They were together by her customs, and they were together in his heart. That was enough for him.

He ran his hands down her back, loving every trace of her curves, and she laid her clawed hands on his chest and her head on his shoulder. She began to purr as Dillon’s hands wandered down to her muscular rump, caressing the base of her tail and more. He kept his touches small and slow, teasing her to excitement but content to wait until they went to the bedroom to truly get the romance started. At least, that’s what he’d thought was going to happen.

Sherisza pushed him back against the wall, a bit of predator showing in those golden eyes, but she was smiling nonetheless. “I hope you are not planning to get much sleep tonight,” she said.

“If you keep me up all night, I don’t think I’ll complain,” he managed as the air got thin.
